Despite the fact that birth control didn’t exist yet, birth rates fell lower than normal in both periods. It was also common for children to die or be given up for adoption because their parents were too poor to care for them.

Now we have very reliable birth control. Had it been available during the Depression, I’m sure many people would have happily availed themselves of it.
