I agree with all of this, except… Things were definitely cheaper back then, but there were lots of things that were unaffordable. I remember gas rationing, and long lines to fill up your car. I remember my parents arguing over the cost of health care now that they had to buy private insurance. Processed food like TV dinners was expensive. Rent was a lot in the early 90s, and we crammed into adult group houses together. Some things were not very affordable at all.

Also, my child is now 16, though I’m 52. I’m still enjoying her youth, and hanging on to mine.
