I lost my virginity when my best friend’s older teen brother forced himself on me, despite not really knowing him, and fighting him and screaming. I was slut-shamed by my friend and my own mother for it.

Most of my friends at the time lost their virginity before they felt ready to aggressive boyfriends, or even date rape with acquaintances. Many of the Gen X teen boys I knew were sexual predators, and stories like the ones told about Brett Kavanaugh were common in my high school. Wrestling a man off you in the car after a date used to be a thing. Frankly, I don’t know any women my age who haven’t been sexually assaulted, usually in their teens and twenties.

Part of the reason we have come to consider sexual aggression so odious today is because Gen X women started fighting back at how freaking acceptable it used to be to violate a woman’s physical boundaries at will.

The fact that teens aren’t wrapped up in alcohol, drugs, and teen sexual drama like Gen X is a GOOD THING.
