There is no practical reason to marry anymore. In fact, marriage can confer great problems in the US, like my friend who incurred 5 million in medical debt after her husband unexpectedly died a month after their wedding. She went bankrupt, while grieving, at age 22, before she had even really started her life. If you are disabled, you will lose benefits by marrying. If one of you becomes ill or demented, they will take your home to pay for their care. If you break up, one of you can lose all your property and assets. Why would anyone marry anymore?!? The institution is a huge financial burden in 2024 America.
